Books are one of the most trusted sources to quench your thirst. Either this thirst is for information, entertainment or moral lessons. Books always serve as the most crystal clear reflection of society. Some books capture your attention at such a greater scale that you get a hangover of them. It becomes a voice in your head. They have such a long-lasting effect on your mind that it becomes your most favorite part of the whole day when you go through it.

Contribution of America Towards Literature:

America(USA), the currently known world power has contributed a lot towards literature. Whether we talk about past or present, the American Nation had shown their keen interest to develop the minds of people according to trend and modernism. The legendary names of Ernest Hemingway, Mark Twain and William Faulkner etc. in this field do not need any formal introduction as they lead to top-class books and novels etc.

Invisible Man:

Invisible Man is a classic novel which is written by Ralph Ellison and actually describes racism. It is post-war fiction. The narrator of this book is unknown as he does not tells his name. He was a black person. He lives underground in a manhole. He tells us that he is invisible not by actual meaning but he says it because people have ignored him too much in his past. He narrates his story when he was a youngster and was about to be graduate from high school. He had good speaking skills. He was assigned a task to speak in front of white people and he will be given a bag. When he completes his speech, white people ask him to fight a boxing match with other blacks to amuse them. He finally stands victorious and gets his bag, while he was shed in blood. Now for further studies, he goes to Black College and was also serving as a driver for Mr. Norton(Trustee of Black College). One day Mr. Norton meets Jim True blood who was a negative person, Mr. Norton gets his mind disturbed when he meets him and goes to the golden bar, nearby there was a mental hospital some mad black men attacked him and he was taken back to college by the narrator. Dr. Bledsoe( President of College) shows anger upon him and sends him to New York. There he starts living in Harlem a society made for black people. He meets a person name Emerson there who gets him a job in a pants factory under the observation of Luscious Brockway. He was a negative person and he thinks that the narrator is here to replace him in his job, that is why he attacked the narrator and he gets harmed. He was referred to factory hospital, doctors also tortured him there and for self-defense narrator gets his hands on them as a result he was discharged from there too. After that, he was helped by a lady Marry Rambo. One day he was wandering in a park he used his speaking skills and gathered public around. Brother Jack was a person who was passing by him and was impressed by his skills, he offered him a job for delivering speeches which he accepted. The name of his company was "The Brotherhood". He served there well and after some time racism shown itself even there and he was kicked out. On a normal day, he meets Tod Clifton who tells him that racism will be at its peak these days and there would be fights everywhere, after listening to this he approaches a higher ground and captures the sight of people gathering everywhere. Suddenly, a white man appears in front of him and starts chasing him, more white people joins the chase for the narrator. After covering some distance he falls into a manhole which saved his life and after that day, the narrator kept on living there.

 

Beloved:

This book is written by Toni Morrison which describes historical fiction. This story describes the time just after the American Civil War. The main character of the book is Sethe who is a black woman who was a slave before the American Civil War. She was owned by a school teacher who used to torture her a lot. She had 4 children including two daughters and two sons. Sethe ran away from school teacher because she did not want her children to be slaves too. She flanked from that city. Early on, everything was going good enough but after sometime school teacher finds her. Sethe killed her elder daughter in front of him and he thought that she has gone mad and it is not safe to take her back and he leaves. The house in which Sethe was living was considered a haunted house. Her both sons Howard and Bulgar ran away and one of her daughters was killed by herself. So, it was only two people living in that house Denver(her daughter) and Sethe. Paul D who was also a slave before the Civil War started living with them too. One day a girl named Beloved came into their house. She was a ghost of Sethe's murdered daughter, soon Sethe realized it too. Beloved and Denver became friends. They both hated Paul D and finally, he had to leave. Sethe asked Beloved to forgive her but she did not accept her apology, Sethe had to obey Beloved in every manner. One day a group of black women came to their house and faded that ghost away. After which, Paul D came back and all of them started living happily.

 

The Color Purple:

This book is written by Alice Walker. The main character of the story is Celie who was a 14 years old girl, she had a younger sister Nettie, an ill mother and a negative character father Pa. Her father used to sexually abuse her daughter. Pa was actually their stepfather. Celie used to write letters to God that what is going on with her. Another character Mr. __ (the name is not told in story) is introduced who used to chase Nettie, Celie asked her to marry him so that she could be saved from her stepfather. But Mr.__ married Celie because she was a responsible woman and he wanted such woman for his child Harpo. Nettie went to Samuel and Corrine who were a couple. They both have adopted children of Celie who were from Pa. The names of Celie's children were Olivia and Adam. Another character Shug is introduced who was a lady having a relationship with Mr.__ in past, she was ill and started living with him again. This again boosted up their relationship. Celie knew all this but she showed no reaction, she was okay with it. When Shug asked her about herself she told her everything about her past, there was a sympathy emerged in the heart of Shug for Celie. Nettie promised Celie before going that she would continue writing her letters but many time passed by and there were no letters, Celie came to know that Mr. __ was hiding letters of her sister after which Celie cursed her. As time passed by after some time, Celie's children had grown up and Adam had married a girl. Samuel's wife Corrine had died and he had married Nettie. It was now time to tell Adam and Olivia truth. They revealed everything on them and sent them to their mother. Pa had also died until then and they all started living together once again.
